Research Scientist Development Alternatives, New Delhi, India. (1985-1987)

Fresh out of the [Indian Institute of Technology](), with an engineering degree in hand, I got myself a job at a non-profit, NGO in New Delhi. I wrote a project proposal that was accepted by the Government of India's Department of Science and Technology. The project funded my job for two years.

  • Designing a low-cost, efficient handloom and a Jacquard attachment for the rural textile sector.
  • Conducting a needs-assessment for low cost textile technologies for the Housing and Urban Development Corporation's (HUDCO) "Sites and Services" Housing Scheme.
  • OXFAM, India funded environmental impact assessment (EIA) of steatite mining in Almora and adjoining villages in the Lower Himalayas, Uttar Pradesh, India.
